Marinette County offers World-Class Whitewater Rafting on the Peshtigo and Menominee Rivers. From April through October these rivers offer extreme adventure with stretches of river for all ages. The video above was taken on the Menominee River (on the Wisconsin-Michigan border).
The Peshtigo River is a Class II-IV river that is known as one of the longest continuous stretches of whtewater in the Midwest. The water levels on this river rise and fall throughout the season, with the most exciting whitewater in the Spring (April and May). We have five different styles of rafts and kayaks, all of which are appropriate for different water levels. During spring it is common to run the river in a large 10-foot raft, while during the summer you will more than likely find yourself in an inflatable kayak.
Our shuttle bus takes you upstream to the "put-in" where you will experience all of the whitewater action of the famous "Roaring Rapids" of the Peshtigo River. Granite rock formations and spectacular scenery are encountered along the tree-lined shores of the river. All Peshtigo trips are appropriate for first timers.
The world-class Menominee River provides the whitewater enthusiast with some of the LARGEST VOLUME RAPIDS IN THE MIDWEST, with characteristics similar to those found on the Colorado River. Due to the size of these CLASS IV RAPIDS we run our BIG WATER 6-10 person rafts with a guide in every boat.
The river trip begins along the stunning 200-foot cliffs bordering Michigan and Wisconsin. Down river you will encounter the famous rapids of Pier's Gorge. We will have a second boat positioned just above the rapids. After we shoot the rapids we take a short hike back to the top of Pier's Gorge and run the rapids again with the second boat. the younger children and less adventurous individuals will enjoy the entertainment as they observe the others in their group running Pier's Gorge two times.
